About the Opportunity

Garnduwa is currently looking for a PART TIME Communications Officer (15 hours per week) to join their team in Broome WA, responsible for providing integral communications support to Garnduwa

With emphasis on Garnduwa’s values of Culture, Community and Leadership, the role will contribute to celebrating the strength-based stories of sport and recreation in the Kimberley, while building Garnduwa’s profile across Western Australia.

 

Primary Objectives

This role's primary objective will be to engage with various stakeholders to coordinate Garnduwa's online presence (Facebook, Instagram, Company Website & Email), using the platforms to demonstrate the success of our work. 

This role will have an important impact in building Garnduwa's profile to attract interest from new funding bodies and/or creating new partnerships. 

Other key responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Achieve communications targets through the development and maintenance of Garnduwa’s Communication, Marketing & Strategic Plans
  • Collaborate and communicate weekly with Garnduwa employees to develop stories and compile content for Garnduwa’s social media, blog posts, and the website
  • Manage, create and publish original, high-quality content for social media
  • Support and build the capacity of internal teams by assisting with written tasks such as reports, CEO updates, letters and external communications
  • Communicate with partners, peak state sporting bodies and key stakeholders to create a strong network, promoting collaborative relationships
  • Research, write, proof, edit, and distribute content, including publications, press releases, website content, annual reports, strategic/business plan and other communication and marketing material that communicates the organisation's activities, events and services for a range of audiences
  • Responsible for designing and creating visual concepts to communicate and promote our programs and events to inspire, inform, and captivate our target audience (i.e. flyers, job advertisements, promotional video and concepts)
  • Respond to emails, direct messages (social media) and enquiries via the website, or forward to the relevant employee/s
  • Support and manage Garnduwa’s brand identity to ensure maintenance of cultural identification, awareness and sensitivity within all communications activities
  • Assist with grant applications as required for Garnduwa events and programs
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports on social media and online exposure for funding bodies and sponsors, as well as monitor Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and user engagement and suggest means by which to optimise content
  • Liaise with personnel from the media, handle all requests for interviews and/or statements whilst ensuring an effective relationship is maintained
  • Assist in the planning an coordination of Garnduwa run events, as required

 

 About You

  ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated experience in managing websites and creating content 
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and Adobe suites
  • Respect for Kimberley Indigenous cultures, and knowledge of community groups within the Kimberley
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with diverse audiences
  • Clear, strength-based communication ethos
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders including peers, communities, external organisations, funding bodies and government agencies
  • Demonstrated experience in managing competing priorities and delivering outcomes within agreed timeframes and to quality standards
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel away from home, including at times staying overnight 
  • Hold an active Driver's Licence (C-Class would be advantageous), National Police Clearance and Working With Children Check (or willing to obtain)

 DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

  •  Formal Qualifications in Communications and/or Marketing
  •  Ability to develop, manage and evaluate marketing and communication strategies to improve organisational outcomes
  •  Basic photography skills

 

Please note: This role may involve some travel to remote Aboriginal communities, including use of dirt roads, small aircraft or 4WD vehicles.

About Garnduwa

Established in 1992, Garnduwa Amboorny Wirnan is a not-for-profit organisation established to promote and support the delivery of quality sports and recreation programs in the Kimberley region of WA. Now working with over 30 remote communities, their services have expanded to include leadership, self-esteem, healthy eating and suicide prevention programs, designed in response to problems with school attendance, physical/mental wellbeing, and involvement with the juvenile justice system.
