ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Garnduwa is currently looking for an Active Communities Development Officer to join their team in Fitzroy Crossing WA. 

This full-time role will be responsible for assisting with the coordination and delivery of sport and recreation activities within the township of Fitzroy Crossing and surrounding areas.

Your other primary responsibilities will include:

  • Carry out visits to all communities in the region that embrace the Active Communities program and support Garnduwa employees or volunteers to deliver the Community Sport and Recreation Plan
  • Maintain an effective and close working relationship with other sport and recreational services
  • Plan and deliver structured and unstructured programs at the Recreation Centre and other venues, as appropriate, particularly after school activities, evening competitions and school holiday programs
  • Accurately record all participation data
  • Incorporate Aboriginal culture into the delivery of health, education and life-skills programs

 

ABOUT YOU

If you have these interests, skills and abilities, this role could be for you:

  • Interest in all sports, especially football and basketball
  • Strong knowledge of Fitzroy Crossing and the surrounding communities
  • Committed to supporting culturally strong programs
  • Involved in and/or passionate about local sport and community activities
  • Strong verbal communication skills, utilising coaching and mentoring techniques
  • Ability to travel to various communities, and stay overnight as required
  • Capacity to work outside normal working hours
  • Currently hold or willing to obtain a current C-Class Driver’s Licence, Working with Children Check and National Police Clearance

Established in 1992, Garnduwa Amboorny Wirnan is a not-for-profit organisation established to promote and support the delivery of quality sports and recreation programs in the Kimberley region of WA. Now working with over 30 remote communities, their services have expanded to include leadership, self-esteem, healthy eating and suicide prevention programs, designed in response to problems with school attendance, physical/mental wellbeing, and involvement with the juvenile justice system.
