About the Opportunity

Garnduwa, in partnership with the West Australian Football Commission (WAFC), is currently looking for a Football Development Officer to join their team in Fitzroy Crossing WA, responsible for delivering components of both the Central Kimberley Football League (CKFL) and Garnduwa strategic plan. 

The consolidation of Women’s, Colts and Senior Men’s Football within the CKFL competition, as well as supporting the Fitzroy Valley Club Development Program will be priority considerations upon commencement.

This role will be based in the Fitzroy Crossing Garnduwa office and will service the surrounding remote communities, ensuring their participation in relevant football programs in all regions across the Kimberley. Therefore, regular travel (including overnight stays) to remote communities will be an integral part of this role.

The role is offered on a full time basis, 37.5 hours per week, to be worked across any seven days. Therefore, there is an expectation that this role may need to complete work over the weekend and outside normal business hours.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

The key responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Working with the CKFL, WAFC and other relevant stakeholders to assist, coordinate and implement the Fitzroy Valley Football Development Program, this will include:
    • Facilitating the delivery of Auskick programs
    • Supporting the coordination of a junior (participants aged 9-12) football competition
    • Planning and assisting in the implementation of a competition targeting participants aged 13-14
    • In conjunction with the CKFL Football Manager and other stakeholders, support senior community football, including game day support where necessary
    • Support WAFC School Football competitions and carnivals
  • Support the implementation of talent development programs in the region in conjunction with Garnduwa’s Kimberley Spirit Program, CKFL, Claremont Football Club, Fremantle Football Club and WAFC
  • Implement and support the participation of remote community based clubs (Muludja, Bayulu, Wangkatjungka, Noonkanbah, Mowamjum and Yakanarra) in the CKFL competition
  • Support Garnduwa’s Active Communities Program in the Fitzroy Valley by providing ongoing support to Garnduwa employees, community volunteers and Community Councils in the region, assisting in the development and maintenance of Community Sport & Recreation Plans, particularly after school and school holiday programs
  • Develop a positive working relationship with school-based Academies, providing support where appropriate in the delivery of Academy carnivals in the region
  • Coordinate the delivery of Level 1 umpiring and coaching accreditation courses in the CKFL, including the delivery of workshops at selected carnivals/events
  • Identify coaches and umpires for the talent pathway program

About You

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A sound understanding of WA football structures and systems
  • An understanding of club and school environments within WA football
  • Level 1 or 2 Coaching Accreditation, or willingness to obtain
  • Ability to lead and interact with large groups of people, including program participants and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and implement ideas tailored to the relevant environment
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Able to work outside of normal business hours, and on weekends as required
  • Demonstrated ability to operate under pressure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated, able to achieve results working autonomously and in a team environment
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • Currently hold or willing to obtain an active Driver's Licence (C-Class would be advantageous), National Police Clearance and Working With Children Check

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

  • A knowledge of the Kimberley, particularly Fitzroy Crossing and its surrounding remote communities
  • Other formal or tertiary qualifications in sport, sport science, youth, health, education and/or other relevant field

Please note: This role may involve some travel to remote Aboriginal communities, including use of dirt roads, small aircraft or 4WD vehicles.

Established in 1992, Garnduwa Amboorny Wirnan is a not-for-profit organisation established to promote and support the delivery of quality sports and recreation programs in the Kimberley region of WA. Now working with over 30 remote communities, their services have expanded to include leadership, self-esteem, healthy eating and suicide prevention programs, designed in response to problems with school attendance, physical/mental wellbeing, and involvement with the juvenile justice system.
