Established in 1992, Garnduwa Amboorny Wirnan Aboriginal Corporation is a not for profit organisation that promotes and supports sport and recreation in the Kimberley.
Our Opportunities
Garnduwa offers opportunities across a range of fields, with our team comprising of a diverse mix of skills, backgrounds and personalities, coming together to deliver sport, recreation and other community programs.
We are looking for people with a genuine passion for sports and physical activity, and ideally, experience playing and/or coaching AFL and basketball. We would also love to hear from people with experience working with young people to help them engage in and access sport and recreation in remote, Aboriginal communities, leading to healthier lifestyles. We also are seeking people who can be positive role models for people in our remote communities.
We have roles to suit a range of experience levels, including graduates and are always on the lookout for talented people. In an exciting period of growth, Garnduwa encourages expressions of interest from candidates with a range of backgrounds whose values align with ours.

Program Delivery Roles
- Active Communities Coordinator
- Development Officer
- Community Recreation Officer
These positions are open to applicants with varying levels of experience. These positions work closely together to coordinate and deliver our direct engagement with program participants. In these roles you will travel to remote communities and build relationships with schools, service providers and most importantly, young people engaged in the programs. Your primary objectives will be building the capacity of individual communities to coordinate their own sport and recreation programs, delivering engaging and well organized AFL and Basketball sessions and producing photographs documenting the engagement for publication on our media channels.

Kimberley Sport Art and Culture
Our KSAC initiative is embedded in all of our programs. It is a commitment to social, emotional and cultural wellbeing that is integrated into our regular program delivery detailed below, and built into stand alone activities and events.
Kimberley Active Communities
Delivering self-sustaining sport and recreation programs to communities across the Kimberley.
Active Leaders Program
Encouraging youth to further enhance their talents and leadership skills to realise their potential as strong community organisers and influencers.
Kimberley Spirit Football Program
A recognised talent pathway for young aspiring Footballers from the Kimberley region that feeds into the WA Football Commission Talent and Development Program.
Making Her Mark
A program that develops AFL throughout the Kimberley Region, particularly in remote communities. Focussing on supporting Aboriginal women to participate in football, and to build their capacity in coordinating and developing sport and recreation events for their communities. This program also allows female youth in remote communities to showcase their AFL skills and to enter the Kimberley Spirit Football Program.
Garnduwa Festival
A major cultural celebration in the Kimberley. A smoke-free and alcohol-free family environment where Kimberley Communities come together to participate in a 4 day event of cultural and traditional music and dance, contemporary music and youth artistic expression, as well as sports such as AFL and Basketball.
Fitzroy Valley Youth Hub
A space for collaborative service delivery. Delivering a range of activities, education opportunities and social sporting events for young people in the Valley. Operating four days per week, including Friday nights.
