About the Opportunity

Garnduwa is looking for an enthusiastic and passionate full-time Senior Development Officer to be based in Halls Creek

This role is responsible for the delivery of the Halls Creek Active Communities Program, which includes the coordination of various sport and recreation activities, including basketball, AFL, soccer and athletics, particularly after school (including some weekends) and during school holidays.

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Promote Garnduwa programs and participation within the Shire of Halls Creek
  • Engage with key sport and recreation stakeholders within the region
  • Manage and provide support to all Garnduwa Community Recreation Officers and volunteers based in Halls Creek
  • Coordinate ongoing structured sporting competitions and activities in the region, encouraging remote community participation
  • Aim to reduce the number of young people falling into the 'at risk' category by incorporating the delivery of health, education and life skill programs
  • Collect and enter data from programs for monthly reporting purposes
  • Support the delivery of all Garnduwa cross regional programs, particularly those held in Halls Creek

 

About You

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • General sport and recreation program development experience, particularly AFL and basketball
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated computer literacy
  • Capacity to work outside normal working hours
  • Good organisational skills
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Hold, or willing to obtain, a current Driver's Licence, Working With Children Check and National Police Clearance

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • A knowledge of Halls Creek and the surrounding communities
  • Hold a First Aid Certificate
  • Formal qualifications in relevant sport, youth, health, education or another related field

Established in 1992, Garnduwa Amboorny Wirnan is a not-for-profit organisation established to promote and support the delivery of quality sports and recreation programs in the Kimberley region of WA. Now working with over 30 remote communities, their services have expanded to include leadership, self-esteem, healthy eating and suicide prevention programs, designed in response to problems with school attendance, physical/mental wellbeing, and involvement with the juvenile justice system.
