About the Opportunity

Garnduwa is currently looking for a Youth Hub Coordinator to join their team in Fitzroy Crossing WA, responsible for coordinating, planning and implementing youth activities within the Fitzroy Valley region as well as managing the Fitzroy Crossing office on a day-to-day basis, supporting the Fitzroy Crossing based Garnduwa team.

The Youth Hub aims to collaborate with community providers to establish a holistic access point for youth wishing to access diversionary and specialist services.  

Primary Objectives

Activities will be based largely from the Fitzroy Recreation Centre with some outreach into surrounding remote communities as required. 

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Coordination and promotion of youth programs which target children at risk within the Fitzroy Valley region
  • Engage and maintain effective and close working relationships with other youth related services aiming to jointly plan strategies and share resources to achieve common outcomes for the benefit of youth in the Fitzroy Valley
  • Facilitate the development and delivery of youth programs and activities tailored to meet the needs and aspirations of Fitzroy Valley youth, particularly after school, evenings and school holiday periods
  • Formulate, assist and maintain an effective case management strategy
  • Support the ongoing operations of the Fitzroy Valley Youth Hub and the implementation of the Fitzroy Valley Youth Engagement Strategy
  • Facilitate youth input into decision making and governance processes that effect their participation in community life in the Fitzroy Valley
  • Prepare submissions and reports as required to relevant funding and associated agencies in regards to program delivery, program outcomes and relevant recommendations
  • Manage the day-to-day administrative tasks and management of the Garnduwa office, programs and property including: security, repairs and maintenance, vehicle maintenance, office equipment etc.
  • Manage and mentor the employees who are based in the Fitzroy Crossing office (particularly Youth Hub employees), including managing employee recruitment, induction and hours
  • Maintain cultural identification and awareness within all Garnduwa activities
  • Collate activity statistics, complete performance reports and project acquittals for key activities as requested by funders
  • Support all Garnduwa events and competitions, particularly those hosted in Fitzroy Crossing, encouraging participation within the community

About You

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Good computer and data entry skills
  • Capacity to work outside normal working hours and travel to remote communities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with young Indigenous people and be culturally aware of the local language groups in the region
  • Experience managing a small team
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Excellent relationship and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Currently hold or willing to obtain an active Driver’s Licence (C-Class would be advantageous), National Police Clearance and Working with Children Check

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or Certificate III in Youth Work, Community Services or equivalent
  • Case management experience would be advantageous

 

Please note: This role may involve some travel to remote Aboriginal communities, including use of dirt roads, small aircraft or 4WD vehicles.

Established in 1992, Garnduwa Amboorny Wirnan is a not-for-profit organisation established to promote and support the delivery of quality sports and recreation programs in the Kimberley region of WA. Now working with over 30 remote communities, their services have expanded to include leadership, self-esteem, healthy eating and suicide prevention programs, designed in response to problems with school attendance, physical/mental wellbeing, and involvement with the juvenile justice system.
