About the Opportunity

Garnduwa is currently looking for a Youth Worker to join their team in Fitzroy Crossing WA, responsible for providing support to the Fitzroy Valley Youth Hub Coordinator in the coordination and delivery of the Youth Hub activities.

Primary Objectives

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in the delivery of Garnduwa youth programs at the Hub and within the region
  • Support the delivery of programs by other organisations that meet the objectives of the Garnduwa
  • Carry out visits to communities in the region and support Garnduwa employees or volunteers within the community in the delivery of youth activities
  • Support the partnership between Garnduwa, the Shire and other key stakeholders and local services in the development and delivery of sport, recreation and youth programs in the region
  • Assist in the delivery of after school activities, evening competitions and school holiday programs as detailed within Garnduwa’s funding agreements
  • Accurately record all participation data
  • Aim to reduce the number of young people falling into the “at risk” category by incorporating Aboriginal culture into the delivery of health, education and life skill programs at all times
  • Maintain awareness and understanding of Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) issues and appropriate referral pathways that service the region

 

About You

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Good organisational skills
  • Self-motivated and capable of working in both a team environment and independently without supervision
  • Ability to communicate effectively with young Indigenous people and be culturally aware of the local language groups in the region
  • Good relationship building and communication skills
  • Good computer skills
  • Strong knowledge of the Kimberley and the remote communities
  • Capacity to work outside normal working hours and travel to remote communities
  • Currently hold or willing to obtain a current Driver’s Licence, Working with Children Check and National Police Clearance

 DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Certificate III in Youth Work, Community Services or equivalent
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Bronze Medallion

 

Please note: This role may involve some travel to remote Aboriginal communities, including use of dirt roads, small aircraft or 4WD vehicles.

About Garnduwa

Established in 1992, Garnduwa Amboorny Wirnan is a not-for-profit organisation established to promote and support the delivery of quality sports and recreation programs in the Kimberley region of WA. Now working with over 30 remote communities, their services have expanded to include leadership, self-esteem, healthy eating and suicide prevention programs, designed in response to problems with school attendance, physical/mental wellbeing, and involvement with the juvenile justice system.
